A leader of men. Appointed to keep grown men in line. In sports no man has more control than the captain. A coach can lose a team, a superstar's opinion can, at time, hold little value in the locker room. the captain is appointed by the team as someone who shows he does the little things that make the team move. He yells, helps, guides and does everything. With the loss of peter forsberg that flyers lose their captain. (in my opinion they lost their real captain when #25 retired, but thats for another time) no other man on this flyers team shows more heart, grit and leadership ability that number 24 sami kapenen. He is not the biggest guy (5'9" 181 lbs)or the best scorer (scored 12 goals the past two years), but he the heart of this team. Hell, even in the pre game skate around he is the one who gathers the pucks in the net and dishes them back to the rest of the team ( as shown below)

no other incident makes me more sure than in the 03-04 playoffs. his heart was going when his brain was not all there. in overtime of the 6th game of the playoffs v. the maple leafs and the flyers tied sami gets smashed and thus knocked silly. to avoid having too many men on the ice sami struggled to get back to the bench and did. as he got off the ice the flyer that hopped on the ice to replace him, mark recchi, scored the game winner. contribute where and when you can.

Some say that mike richards jersey was destined to dawn the coveted C, until then my vote goes to sami.

ps. he also played for the late hartford whalers. how cool is that!?!?!

I have been going through the worst bought of insomnia that i have ever had to deal with. not since the long nights of unemployment have i seen the number letter combo of 4:35am. i wrestle with things i have the day ahead, the things ive done before and why the hell i cant sleep. its harder having someone sleeping next to you. you hear them breath. you feel them move. when it gets real late you can almost see their dreams. T.V. holds no answers. All it provides are bad movies, awful re-runs and infomercials (sp.) and if i am lucky to finally fall asleep the new day beats on my head like an african slit drum from the Yoruba tribe. (im getting cultural on that ass!) well its 11:38 now and i feel a long night ahead of me. wish me luck.

side note: this is one type of african slit drum from the yaka tribe.

a slit drum you may have seen is the size of a shoe box, some time larger with what can be described as, well, slits on top. each arm of the "slit" makes a different sound. pretty cool and my birthday is coming up so be on the look out wont you?
here is an example of that type of drum.

this is also a slit drum, but i have no idea how it works, it just looks neat.

with a little research i found out this ablut that drum...

the butcher boy was re-released this past week on dvd.

here is what its all about (from imdb):
The film tells the story of Francie who lives with his depressed mother and alcoholic father.
